April 26 2003 - the day of departure has finally arrived. Ralph and I entertained guests until way to late but still managed to get away before 0700. We wanted to make Pirates Cove before dark, normally a 12 hour run from Gautier. In a final bid farewell I managed to run aground in Marsh Lake. Fortunately we were able to back off and keep going. (But as we will see later it was an omen). We made Pirates Cove (a favorite stop over since my early adulthood) before dark and after anchoring in the cove dinghyed up to the store to partake in one of their greasy cheeseburgers and cold beers. We passed Ralph off as the "G" Man and I had to claw the women off of him.
April 27 2003 - motored to Big Lagoon, in Pensacola, where we tied up along side Adante, an IP31 owned by Frank and Eva Stroud. We spent the day doing what sailors do, eating, drinking and telling stories. Ruby went ashore and explored but finally returned to he boat. First test passed.
April 28 2003 - traveled to Destin, anchored in the harbor. Ralph and I went to the Boathouse for Oysters, gumbo and beer. Already starting to enjoy this life of a boat bum.
April 29 2003 - motored to Panama City and parked her in the municipal marina. It has been 14 years since my last trip and they have really fixed this place up and improved the quality of service. It was an enjoyable stay.
April 30 2003 - Our mission today was to pick up our third crewmemer Annie at the bus station in Panama City. On the way back to the boat we stopped and had lunch at the Cheese Barn and made several purchases at the used book store. Always a hit with sailors. Reading easily becomes a major pastime. |
